In this episode of The Hyper Driven Investor Podcast with Zeke Martinez, Zeke sits down with diversified investor Waiyee Schmidt for a powerful conversation about loss, faith, resilience, and learning how to pivot.

Waiyee grew up in Singapore and became the first person in her family to attend college and become an attorney. She later moved to Germany, built a family, and spent years building a real estate portfolio with her late husband.

Then her life changed.

After her husband passed away in 2018, Waiyee faced the loss of about 95% of her household income. She also had to manage their estate, deal with major tax obligations in Germany, and sell real estate assets.

That experience changed the way she looked at wealth.

Waiyee began asking a different question. Instead of only thinking about growing assets, how could she build investments that also created cash flow?

Her search eventually brought her to the United States and opened the door to new types of investing. She also learned some hard lessons after putting money into U.S. real estate investments that did not perform as she expected.

Rather than quit, Waiyee chose to learn and pivot.

Today, one area she is focused on is energy, including oil and gas mineral and royalty interests. She explains how mineral owners can receive royalty income when energy companies produce oil and gas from their interests. For Waiyee, this became another way to think about ownership, cash flow, and long-term wealth.

Faith is also a big part of her story. Waiyee shares how her beliefs helped guide her through difficult seasons and now shape the way she thinks about money. She believes wealth can have a purpose beyond the individual. It can help families, future generations, and communities.

Waiyee and her husband, Rocco Farino, also co-founded Kings & Wealth, a community for like-minded people interested in building wealth with purpose.

This conversation is about much more than investing. It is about being willing to change when life changes, learning from mistakes, staying grateful through hard seasons, and finding a new path forward.
